Will I suffer from male-pattern baldness?

Well, here is my situation. I am 14, my father (caucasian) has been suffering from baldness sice he was in his twenties, and now is almost completely bald. My brother is 24, and is beginning to suffer from male-pattern baldness/hair loss. I suppose the obvious answer would be that I too will start to bald around this age, but I am very different physically compared with my brother. He is 5″9′, while I am 6″1′. He suffers from asthma and often contracts sicknesses, while I do not. Hence, my question is, despite our differences in physiology, will I be likely to still suffer from male-pattern baldness in my 20′s? Additionally, the men on my mother’s side of the family (asians) all have full heads of hair. Could I have inherited her genes instead of my father’s? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Your father being bald has nothing to do with it. It is one of the the X chromosomes of your mother that matter. You didn’t get an X chromosome from your father or you would be a girl. If your brother has male pattern baldness, there is a 50% chance you will get it unless your mother has both baldness genes which is unusual. Bottom line is there is a slightly greater than 50% chance for you to experience male pattern baldness when you grow older, assuming your brother is going to go bald.

here’s hoping you will. You’re a little too young for me, but bald guys are sexy.

No, you will enjoy male-pattern baldness.

Ive read if a male is casterated before puberty they will not suffer from baldness.

If anything it will delay your loss of hair, but I don’t think that you will be spared completely.

the gene is carried by the woman, not the male. my brother-in-law is mostly bald, but my husband has all his hair. go figure.
