Is there a way for me to stop playing with my hair every second?

It is a tick i had since i was 7yrs old, and it is stuck with me until now. As a result, it is an obstacle when i am reading, studying, watching TV, or anything else for that matter. In fact, whenever i do play with it, i pull out my hair without intending to, resulting in hair loss. I really need help in preventing me from playing with my hair. I don’t know what to do. Any sort of feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Your not alone. I have done the same thing for years.

    Shave your head!

Seriously. My girlfriend keeps threatening to shave her hair off. I think really short hair can be really cute on a girl or good looking on a guy!

If you do it, I will do it with you!

You could take an extreme approach and cut it all off!

I don’t see how it can be an obstable…unless you driving a car or doing an activitey that requires both hands..

Try not to judge yourself so harshly for it. As far as bad habits go, this one is relatively benign. Maybe when you catch yourself doing it pay attention to what you are thinking and feeling at the time. Maybe it is a sign of anxiousness or something like that, and you can use it as a signal to smile, take a deep breath, pay attention to what is going on internally and relax. As you get in touch with what is going on inside, you may find that the frequency subsides.

The other option is to shave your head.

Wear it in a braid or a tight pony-tail, hon. I used to play with my hair constantly and it was distracting to my audience when I did public speaking. My remedy was to wear it in a style that doesn’t allow me to mess around with it too much! A french braid, a tight ponytail, a bun, topsyturvy, french twist- ANYTHING that gets it out of your face, and off your mind!

One of my good friends used to have this problem. She would put a hair elastic or rubber band on her wrist. Whenever she caught herself playing with her hair, she’d twirl the rubber band instead.

You just need to find something more subtle to distract yourself with.
